What This Is

Management Foundations is a four-class series on the foundational craft of managing direct reports. The curriculum works for two audiences: first-time managers being formally trained, and founders or CEOs developing their own management practice.

Each class has prework, an in-session exercise, and homework. The order is sequential. Each class assumes the prior one is in hand.

The Four Classes

  1. Class 1: Role Definition. How to get perfectly clear on what someone's job is.
  2. Class 2: Agreements Between Manager and Employee. Turning role clarity into delegation that works.
  3. Class 3: Communication Rituals. Running good meetings and meaningful one-on-ones.
  4. Class 4: Feedback. Closing the gap between what was agreed and what happened.
